Starting lineup, format, TV schedule for Texas

The format is lengthy and a tad bit convoluted (as you’ll see below), but the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Texas for the All-Star Race.

It’ll be a four-stage race with a pit-stop competition in between. The racing should improve from the last couple of years at Texas, as the Next Gen car has done for all 1.5-mile tracks. That includes last week’s Kansas race, where Kyle Larson and Kurt Busch dueled back and forth for the last 100 laps or so. Busch prevailed for his first win of the year.

Here’s what you need to know about Sunday’s All-Star Race:

NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at Texas schedule

Green Flag Time: 4:30 pm CT Sunday for All-Star Open, 7 pm CT Sunday for All-Star Race

Track: Texas Motor Speedway (1.5 mile oval) in Fort Worth, Texas

Format: All-Star Open is three segments (20, 20 and 10 laps); each segment winner advances to All-Star Race. Fans will vote another driver into the All-Star Race.
