BIRDSELL HONORED FOR STANDOUT PERFORMANCE
Texas Tech junior right-hander Brandon Birdsell was named the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It is Birdsell’s second Pitcher of the Week award of the 2022 season. Birdsell tossed an eight-inning complete game in the Red Raiders’ dominant 12-2 run-rule (8) victory against West Virginia in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The junior did not allow an earned run, limited the Mountaineers to four hits, and struck out nine while walking just one batter. The start marked the longest outing of his Texas Tech career.

HOME COOKIN ‘
Rip Griffin Park has a distinct home field advantage that has pushed Tech to a 20-2 record at home this season, and a blistering 236-61 mark since 2013 when the Tim Tadlock era began. The Red Raiders will be fighting down the stretch for the right to host its sixth-straight NCAA Regional to utilize that home magic in the postseason.

I’LL TAKE A DOUBLE
Texas Tech has hit 108 doubles this season, ranking second-most in the nation. UNLV leads the nation with 119 followed by Texas Tech (108) and then three teams are tied for third (100).

THE BALL MAGNET
Tech’s Easton Murrell has been hit by a pitch 17 times this season. Even more astonishing is Murrell has only played in 28 of the Red Raiders’ 43 games this season. Cole Stilwell is second on the team in HBP with five and he’s played in 42 games. Murrell is already ranking fifth in single-season Tech history for HBPs.
