Men’s Tennis Falls to Tennessee Tech 4-3 on Thursday Afternoon

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team suffered a tight and hard-fought 4-3 loss to in-state foe Tennessee Tech in non-conference action in Cookeville, Tennessee on Thursday afternoon.

Following the loss, Chattanooga falls to 5-13 overall this season while still holding on to its 3-1 mark in Southern Conference play. Tennessee Tech improves to 2-9 this season after the win.

“The team battled today, and we just fell short,” said head coach Chuck Merzbacher. “We put ourselves in position to win with three dual match points, but they played well.”

After securing the doubles point and an additional singles point via forfeit, Chattanooga’s Jordan McClure earned a dominating 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 4 slot of singles action to account for the team’s third point. UTC couldn’t squeak out another win in singles before eventually falling 4-3.

“Jordan played his best match of the year today, as we have some other guys playing strong right now,” added Merzbacher.

Chattanooga returns to action on Sunday, April 3, when it faces in-state rival ETSU in Johnson City at 1:00 pm ET. Match coverage links, when available, are located on the schedule page on GoMocs.com.
