BLACKSBURG – After an exceptional Saturday of competition last weekend, Tech track and field hits the road again this outdoor season for two loaded meets on the east coast. In South Carolina, the pole vault competitions are set to kick off at noon on Saturday, with the women’s event hitting the runway first followed by the men’s competition afterwards. Live results will be available courtesy of Adkins Trak Timing.

ATHLETES TO WATCH

Several distance runners are set to make season debuts in various events, as Ben Fleming, Ben Nibbelinkand Chase Kappeler run the 3,000m steeplechase for the first time in 2022. After running the 1500m for a season opener at the Tennessee Relays, Antonio Lopez Segura takes on the 5,000m for the first time this year at Virginia.

A handful of athletes are scheduled to run both the 800m and the 1500m at Virginia, with the 1500m scheduled for Friday and the 800m on Saturday. Seb Anthony, Christian Jackson, Ava Hassebrock, Hannah Ballowe, Leigha Torinoand Grace Boone lead a squad of nearly a dozen Hokies taking on the two events.

In the field events at the Virginia Challenge, Chauncey Chambers eyes his season debut, the bad weather in Tennessee two weekends ago preventing the All-American triple jumper from putting in his first marks of the outdoor campaign. Hailey Huston Myles will leap in the women’s edition of the triple, as the jumps group looks to continue a strong season outdoors.

At South Carolina, the weather forecast appears ideal for big clearances on Saturday for the Hokies pole vaulters. Rachel Baxter and Julia Fixsen look to continue their outdoor seasons following competition in California last weekend, as Harrison Rice, Jacob Riceand Conner McClure take on the men’s competition in Columbia.
