CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College lacrosse team enters the 2022 ACC Tournament hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. as the No. 2 seed.
The Eagles will face No. 7 seed Virginia Tech on Friday at 5 pm The winner will advance to the semifinals on Sunday and will face the winner of No. 3 Syracuse and No. 6 Virginia at 3:30 pm The championship will take place the following weekend at the higher seed’s campus.
BC earned the second seed after a three-way tie with Duke and Syracuse and boasted the highest goal differential between the schools in head-to-head competition.
3-way tie for # 2 seed:
- Tiebreaker # 1
- Boston College, Syracuse, and Duke are all 1-1 against each other
- Tiebreaker # 2
- Each lost to # 1 UNC and each beat the remaining teams in the conference
- Tiebreaker # 3 – Goal Differential in Head-to-Head Games
- Boston College (+1) – earns # 2 seed
- Boston College def. Syracuse: 15-13 (+2)
- BC loses to Duke: 15-16 (-1)
- Syracuse (0) – earns # 3 seed
- Syracuse def. Duke: 18-16 (+2)
- Syracuse loses to Boston College: 13-15 (-2)
- Duke (-1) – earns # 4 seed
- Duke def. Boston College: 16-15 (+1)
- Duke loses to Syracuse: 16-18 (-2)
- Boston College (+1) – earns # 2 seed
Boston College finished the regular season with a 14-2 mark and 6-2 record in ACC play. Virginia Tech finished the season at 9-8 and 2-6 in the ACC. The Hokies fell to Virginia in their regular-season finale on Saturday.
BC defeated the Hokies earlier this season at home in an 18-8 victory.
